Welcome to TwitterBard

I’m Alan Oak — poet, essayist, blogger and editor — and twitterbard.com is my online performance space. TwitterBard.com has TwitterPoems (poems of 140 characters maximum), traditional-length poems, reviews and other cool stuff.

Among my many and varied interests, I’ve been a keen observer of digital literacy since the ‘90s and a poet for even longer. With the Internet and our hectic lives, I think how and why we read, and what we expect from our reading, is changing.

As soon as Twitter came into my view, it inspired me to see what can be written in that tiny text string. I resolved in May 2009 to write, edit and post a new TwitterPoem every day. Haven't quite done that, but I've been pretty productive! Like a good chocolate, I hope my tweets bring a little bit of poetic sweetness to your life.

Living in the Rio Grande Valley, I’m active in the local poetry scene, where I perform my TwitterPoems and more traditional-length poems at readings, festivals and conferences.
